Dual Boot?

My HP desktop is a dual boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17.2 PC. I have 2 640 GB HDs. I thought when I installed Windows 7 it would install to one 640 GB. I installed Linux and it asks where to install and on what HD. I installed to the 2nd 640GB HD. When I use a Linux disk tool, it shows "some Linux" on both drives as well as some W7 on each HD. What gives? My plan was to install an SSD and use it for Linux. It looks like that is not as easy as it seems.

When you install a new operating system just have the drive you want the operating system on hooked up.
Unhook all other drives. That way your new install has no place to go but the one drive you have hooked up.

I'm no expert but I did find one. Take a read through this tutorial by Golden.
