[FIXED]Dual Monitor...Help

Ok guys/gals,

Here is my issue.... I have 2 screens(Acer H243H.24") (set to ext.desktop). My gpu is evga 570sc. see specs if you need more info.

They were and still do work fine with 1 on DVI(monitor2) and 1 on HDMI(monitor1). Now I like the way the DVI looks better so today I hooked the other(monitor 1) to DVI also and now in Windows I get "No Signal"

Here is the fun part....The way I have them set on my desk is.. (monitor2)Main display and (monitor1) extended display(to my right). Therefore when I first power on I P.O.S.T...ect and see Bios on(monitor1) after boot and Windows start up it switches to (monitor2) for main display.

So I know both Monitors work, both cables are good, and both gpu port work(imo).

Now you know the setup and what I'm trying....Issue is after boot/start up into windows (monitor1) goes black "NO SIGNAL"

I'm pretty sure I have settings right. I do have all latest Drives for Gpu and Monitors.
Both monitors show up in Device Manger and Display properties for windows and Nvidia control panels.

Please Help If You Can!

Since the only difference between hdmi and dvi is that hdmi also carries audio, if you're seeing things "better", then something isn't right... most likely the montior's set up info. I'm not familiar with your monitor, but there must be someway/setting to distinguish between dvi and hdmi?

Monitor wouldn't happen to have a switch on it or the option somewhere in its on screen settings to select which input is used?

Don't remember the make and model, but this was the solution for the last person I saw that went from one connection to another was a button/switch along the front edge of the monitor to select which connection was used.

I know they are the same(-audio) but for some reason the Dvi looks crisper, so I figured I would try it out and see if it shows any difference.

Yes it does have a setting for that in the menu & it is set to Dvi (it also has auto search for signal at power on)

Now here is something I just noticed while reinstalling drivers.....(see pic) for some reason the Nvidia control panel is see the connection as Vga???

I'm starting to think the problem is with the card it-self. I have checked all settings a ton of times, I've tried nvidia's last 3 drivers + their newest beta one. Also have tried to swap which what monitor is main, switched wires back n forth on monitors and gpu ports. I even tried to go back to my original setup and it is now doing the same thing....

Is it possible that just trying to switch the wires in the first place could kill something in the gpu to make it not work with dual-monitors???

No, just swapping ports won't kill anything. It's my thinking that perhaps that attempt at 5.5GHz may have messed up something? One of the dangers of an unstable OC is that it can and does corrupt the OS. Don't get me wrong, I was cheering you on just as loudly as the next man, but... well... OS'es get corrupted doing stuff like that. I know you only booted up at 5.5, but that can be all it takes.

Hopefully the card is alright and at worst, the only thing you may have to do is re-install. Even better would be if I'm way off base and there's some setting we're overlooking.

Have you tried Driver Sweeper in safe mode? Going back to square 1 sometimes does the trick.

I know that with OC'ing can mess things up but what I'm kind of stuck on is that after my 5.5ghz try, I used this computer for hours with no issues, powered down, powered up the next day ran for hours again with no issues. Only when I remembered that I had been meaning to try out the DVI/DVI instead of HDMI/DVI is when I got an issue. I switched the cable and right off the bat started this issue.

Yes ran DriverSweeper in safe mode. I'm not to worried if the card is bad, I can just RMA it. I have Lifetime Warranty on it. I just don't like the 7-10 day down time(min) and just want to pinpoint the issue as close is it can be before I go down whatever road it takes me.

As I was typing this I did remember that the reason I went with the HDMI/DVI setup instead of DVI/DVI in the first place is that when I tried it the first time I could not get it to work then ether.

Was a nice OC though right!!..:p

It sure was. I'm old school though... so what I like most about your OC is that you're at 4.5 with only 1.24 volts... now that's impressive. :) So far, I'm down to 1.27... will shoot for 1.24 tonight.

Anyone else got any ideas??

I'm in the progress of backing up some stuff now, Just in-case it going to be a start from scratch type of thing...

2 questions.

1)If it is an corrupt OS are there any scans that my help??

2)If I do a full back-up with Acronis right now and use that backup to restore after a clean install(format) will it be corrupt??

EDIT: I found this really old post...HERE...It gives me a little hope to not have to redo the system. I'll pull my gpu later and check it out.

Fixed

Ok guys here is an update...... Dual Monitors Are Now Working Again!!!

What fixed it?? Well that's the question, I did so many things yesterday and stupidly did not test between each of them...

So here is the low down on what was tested and what all I did....

First I reinstalled all Drivers for 2xMonitors,Gpu(clean installs) Tested after...no go.
next set system to single monitor and tested each port on Gpu one at a time...DVI(1)Dead,It ether has a pin missing or to far back to be seen. DVI(2)working fine. HDMI working fine. Set system back to Dual and tried dvi(2)/hdmi...no go.

Next, I opened case back up and pulled card again, figured I would try a different pci-slot. Moved card to new slot(did not test yet) .....Then it dawned on me that before I had this issue and before I switched cables on the monitors that I did my monthly cleaning of the case but while I was in there ...... I cleaned up some wire mess that I didn't like and moved my H70 cooler fans(2x) and pump to molex instead of the on-board fan pins(for looks only). Now my MB has two molex power plugs on it for extra power to the Pci lanes(one mid-board & one bottom left corner). Now I've only ever used one of them(mid-board) but now I thought hell!! I've now got 2 fans,1 pump and my extra power to the lanes all on ONE cable from the Psu!! Maybe, just maybe I'm not getting enough power to the pci lanes, so off to the box o wires(we all have one) grabbed a new cable to run from Psu to the unused molex plug on the MB, hooked everything back up....Powered up and .......Holy S#!t it worked, back to Dual-Monitor Heaven!!

Later I though to myself "What fixed it" the ... Added power or the Moving to a new slot??? ?

Being the :geek: I am, I've got to know!!!
So off to try and see what did it..yup going to unhook it all and try each one by itself. :D

EDIT: Retried without extra power...works fine... Retried back in other pci slot w/o extra power...still worked..??? I don't know what the hell fixed it?? But hey it works!!
Still got to RMA the card because of the Dead DVI(1) port.
