Dual Monitor not being detected

Hey there,

today I purchased myself a second monitor (TV) and a VGA cable to go with it. My current monitor uses a VGA cable and works fine. My PC has 2 VGA ports, I plugged my second monitor into the second port. The second monitor is not being detected. Just for testing purposes, I tried switching them round, the 2nd monitor then worked, apart from having no sound, and my first monitor didn't.

Please could I help some help with this? As I hoped I havn't just wasted £150 on nothing

Any help or advice is appriciated, thanks in advance.

The 2 VGA ports are connected where ? MB, Video card, etc.

Edit: The VGA cable does not transmitt sound to a TV Monitor, HDMI cable does!

I believe they are located 1 on the graphics card, the other on the motherboard.

Yes, that is what I meant. On some computer MB's the VGA is disabled in the Bios setup when you have added a separate video card. Does you video card have HDMI &/or DVI video connections along with the VGA connection.

Yes, it also has 2 HDMI ports (which are being used by my mouse / keyboard) and a DVI port aswell. I would prefer to try and get it working with VGA as I bought the cable already.

I did not know a mouse & keyboard could use HDMI. Are you sure you don't mean USB ports. ?

No I don't sorry, I could take one tomorrow but not now, I think i'm just going to get a DVI to VGA thing, hopefully that will work

DVI to VGA will work for picture video but NO Sound on TV

HDMI if you have that on the back of the video card as my pic up above shows. Or setup separate cables for sound to the sound inputs on the back of the TV.

Ok thanks for your help, I do have an HDMI so I'll get a HDMI to VGA, and that will work, correct?

NO, the VGA connection on the TV has NO sound. A HDMI cable from video card to HDMI on the TV HDMI input has sound.
HDMI cables are not that expensive. What is the distance between the computer to the TV length ? 6ft, 10ft, 15ft, 30ft ?

The distance from the TV - PC is about 1-2 ft. I will settle with A HDMI-HDMI then, I think I have one somewhere.
