I have a dual OS, win 7 and a corrupted win 10, each on separate hd's. I would like to install win 7 via my disc to the corrupted win 10 partition. Its been quite awhile since i used this disc, and installed it, so i am probably a bit rusty. I setup bios to boot my disc. When it arrives by saying its loading files and finishes, then tells me there is no driver shown...and BTW, my mouse is inactive during this process. I close down the pc and unplug my original win 7 and tried again, with the same results. I did not want to risk screwing up my original Win 7 system. I never ran into this situation when i originally installed win 7, so am at a loss.

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit, Build 7601, Installed 20210818191034.000000-240

Boot into 7 open diskmanager and delete all parition on the second drive and leave it blank. then reboot with the working win7 drive removed.
Is win 10 uefi or mbr as that could do it

By removing working win 7, I take it you mean to unplug it. right? What about the mouse not working? Yes, its uefi ...

Well with this same MB and this desktop i had no problem installing win 7 SP1 to this day...so why should I be concerned about UEFI.? When i installed it back then 2016, i was completely ignorant of UEFI or legacy.

- - - Updated - - -

Well, i removed the working win 7, restarted the computer, win 7 said it was loading files and then it says it cannot find devices. Again my mouse is useless, so i have to guess by pressing enter. A blank screen appears where a driver should be shown, but its empty....and that is as far as i get. The bottom shows Number 1 and Number 2...but without a working mouse its useless. I do not know how i managed without any problems a year or so ago when i was forced to reinstall win 7 on this same desktop.

You need to make sure the other hard drives are offline while you install to the second HDD. If not, the install can write a boot loader to the other drives.

Only have the one HDD connected for install and the rest need to be unplugged.

For a multi boot environment try EasyBCD. All HDDs need to be online when you use this software after install of the Win 7 OS.

You can't see the drive because you're booting the installation drive as Legacy-MBR and the target drive is UEFI-GPT or vice versa.
Is your mouse on a USB 2.0? Win 7 installation drive don't have the drivers for USB 3.x

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

If you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name).
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.

No reply from the last post, so i did some tweaking and followed all routes suggested here. UEIF-gpt, unplug win 7, setup Media tool with Bios and win 10 went through its normal mode. After it finished , you get the warning that its going to restart, which it does and then i waited and waited, screen still blank and finally I hear that familiar virtual woman's voice introducing herself, but I do not get any visual sight of win 10. I have done this without exaggeration a half dozen times and this is all i get each time...audio. Prior to that I did get the usual warning about chkdsk and this time i made it run its course and all i keep seeing hundreds of the same file passing and be replaced with default security. On another note, I went through Bios to start boot with the bcd and it never came on although its shown there in my Bios. Finally i connected win 7 so I could post this latest stab. It seems that possibly the BCD is all messed up and preventing me from getting a normal win 10. ..that was why i reinstalled it the Easybcd...but obviously to no avail.

No, it didn't ask me that...it asked me where do i want install win 10 and itself highlighted the only unalloacted partition shown. The SSD hd was the only one that had unallocated partition perhaps that is why it highlighted it. There were no other hd's connected so i do not see how it could make a mistake..still puzzled that BCD is shown in Bios but not workable. Prior to todays effort, just by chance i thought i would check my msconfig boot tab. In the past both OS were shown, but not this time...only win 7 is shown. In device manager the partition where win 10 is suppose to be, properties shows 13.7 gb's used of the 223 gb's...i assume that is win 10.

- - - Updated - - -

Well, the inevitable happened...after trying to reinstall win 10 a few times with the same corrupt results, I screwed up this last time by forgetting to unplug my win 7. As windows reached the part of adding features, i realized i neglected to unplug win 7 and immediately cancelled hoping nothing was yet installed, but apparently i was wrong when i rebooted to see if win 7 was OK and chose it via F8 , i saw win 10 logo and again that virtual woman's voice. At this stage, i don't know if it can be repaired. I did make a backup copy about a month or so ago and i still have the win 7 dvd sp 1. I don't understand when after deleting all drives but the exception of the drive that i wanted to install win 10 on and it was highlighted, instead it went right into my win 7 and installed part of it there till i cancelled. I'm posting this from my Acer notebook.

You can fix the Win 7 drive after you have properly installed Win 10.
- Detach (SATA or power cable) all other drives leaving on only the target drive.
- Boot from a Win 10 installation drive.
- deleted all partitions on the drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed

LET ME get this right....you say unplug win 7 hd, use medial tool to install win 10, delete all drives but the main target unallocated drive and install win 10? This time that drive is not completely unallocated. The one main partition is the only one that is unallocated. There are 2 recovery's shown. How do i make that drive all unallocated. now that i can't use the desktop' disk manager? BTW, i hate being a pessimist..but i had done all what your suggesting without screwup and still only get that audio part of win 10.

Thanks for your patiences...I arrived at that one drive where it showed separately the unallocated recovery and the main part of 223gb. I tried to delete first the recovery, but it could not be deleted, so i went to the main part and like u said , one unallocated drive. Windows continued with installation and then i get the warning that it is going to reboot in 8 seconds....Now i've gone through this area quite a few times that i know how its going to turn out and not to my advantage. Am i suppose to remove the Media tool when warned? I always left it in thinking that the installation needed the tool to finish the job. Just what was i suppose to see after that reboot? I waited and that same woman's voice appears congradulating me. mind u there is no visual system showing, just her voice. On another note, when window asks me if i have a product key, i always say no....but i do have a product key from win 7....do u think that may help?

I don't understand why you couldn't delete the recovery partition.
The installation has 3 stages:
- Copying files
- Extracting and installing
- Creating a user profile

After the first stage, Copying files, it shutdown and reboots. When it shutdown you have to remove the Win 10 installation drive (only if the USB drive is the first on the BIOS boot priority) so it boots from the main drive and proceed with the installation.
As the computer already had Win 10 you don't need to enter a key.

I tried again after reading your last post with the same results, which brings to my attention, judging the included quotes by you, that maybe we are not in SYNC. tHIS is what i see after clicking next " copying and loading files...wait until reach's %100...then Installing features....then installing updates....nothing about Profiles as you mentioned and finally Finishing up and then the warning it would reboot in 7 seconds. Knowing that the drive was setup in bios to boot after removing the usb drive,,, which it did, but the results were the same ...only hearing that womans voice and nothing else. I read somewhere the medial tool is upgraded depending what version updating your up to. What do u think? Are we using different 'tools'?
