Duke Nukem Forever

got to agree with what i've seen so far with the demo, but then again i've only had time to play for less than an hour - i'm sure i would have found more time if i thought it was worth it.

there are some laughs to be had, but it is a bit clunky and dated.

don't think i'm going to buy the full version.

Never actually played any of the originals, although i may have a look around for Duke Nukem 64 for the n64 as i have an emulator but i do want to play this.

One thing though, Can anyone tell me how big the download is from Steam.

I have a slow internet d/l speed and unless the server is not busy, it can take a couple of days for say Metro 2033 to d/l

Many thanks

Lucky

I also think for a lot of us, who played the old game, it was a long time ago. We have changed, matured, etc....so what was great then might not always translate to great now. I remember roommates in college who dug out old Atari's and such and brought them to college to go back and play those great old games....but I'll be honest with the Playstation 1 sitting there...those old consoles got VERY VERY LITTLE use. The games just weren't as great as people remember them.

changing the subject a little, i've noticed that the demo also installed the AMD dual-core optimizer program on my intel system, and added it to the msconfig startup tab.

that seems a little silly...

i've just manually unticked it, so shouldn't get any problems.

been playing it now since it came out, ukno what i think its a very good game, the change in game play is so dramatic, going from close quarters to massive outside scenes just varies so much and things you can do, fairly impressed, maybe maybe a little more on the graphics but still looks good enough

It's Duke! There are some funny stuff in the game, as an FPS it's nothing new or original, but it's Duke! At this point, after waiting for so long, my personal expectations were extremely low, that's why I like it, but surely won't be replaying it anytime soon.

It feels like the game is easily forgettable, but it still IS an enjoyment to play.

Part of the reason why I never read any Online magazine reviews is because they are all pretty much tainted by the publisher with that "Give us a good review or we will blacklist you for the next game" BS.

I much rather hear it from guys like us here and make my decision. Also, if I have to jump through hoops to get a demo, I soon realize that I am not interested in that game at all and go to the next one... I may comeback to this one when I see it in the Bargain Bin.

That about sums it up. Going in I had realistic expectations (ie no/low) and as such, wasn't disappointed. But once done, it's not something I'd keep coming back to.

If this wasn't Duke, I'd probably have enjoyed it less, but it's still a fun once through romp regardless.

Yep. I gave up on reviews a long time ago. Especially the 'big sites'. So much bias for one reason or another that it's hard to take any of it seriously.

You may get the odd independent review that is objective, but for the most part they are now virtually worthless.

I may comeback to this one when I see it in the Bargain Bin.

Even though I enjoyed playing it, realistically it is a bargain bin purchase.

My thoughts exactly. I just know I'll feel like this after playing MW3 (not gonna buy it, of course, I can just rent it for a couple of days [HOURS xD])

But it this was something like Half-Life 2 EP3 or the actual HL3, I'd be bashing Valve's heads!

WE WANT HALF LIFE! xD

Yeah, DNF can be forgiven - but as time goes by and if Portal 2 is anything to go by, there's going to be some serious bitching that actually is deserved :)

DarksydePhil has a hateful truth video about the game, very interesting watch spec the part about comparing it to a very silly review for Witcher 2. 30% for DNF and 92% for Witcher 2 despite the reviewer goes in depth about the horrid parts.

I stopped watching when he said: "Portal 2" and then "there are a lot of other FPS that are adding that kind of element to it".

Excuse me? Portal 2, a FPS? Goodbye, silly reviewer.
The guy does have a certain point, but I won't bother watchign further.

I didn't use the shrink ray or holoduke on the areas he was talking about... And I played it on hard :p

Agree about that water level though - a pita that was.

Do I get an achievement for making it through 18mins of watching that vid? :D

I always been a HUGE fan of old-style FPS such as Goldeneye 007 (n64) and Perfect Dark (n64). Duke Nukem 64 is one of those me and my brothers took a liking in long ago. Although the graphics were horrible, the gameplay was fantastic. We had so much fun. And that's why I can't seem to grasp how people can have fun with games like Battlefield and Call Of Duty Modern Warfare (the original Call Of Duty and Call Of Duty 2 were amazing btw).

So, big sites like IGN, being biased to games like Call Of Duty : Black Ops/Modern Warfare 2, will surely rate DNF low because "it's old". Sorry but, I'm unable to give a **** to a FPS that you have to spend an hour on a strategy. For me, a FPS, is a game that you enter your ennemy base and starting shooting all around and don't give a **** on strategy. That is called old-time FPS. In my opinion, they are simply the most fun to play. You just go and shoot.

My brother bought DNF and all he can say is "THIS GAME IS F****** AMAZING!!". And, believe me, he has played more recent titles such as Cod:MW2. He completed the solo compaign but he just can't play the multiplayer because... it's full of 12-yo kids who are simply overusing nukes and crying over because they can't win a game.

I miss the days where you would simply gather some friends and play together... (but I can't play against my bro because he is able to kick a 8 medium skilled player team's a** by himself... I prefer to play with people that are of my skills)

Anyway. My rant's over. Man, if it wasn't of my alternator for my car next month, I would have bought both DNF and Zelda:Ocarina Of Time 3D for my 3DS but now I'm kinda hesitating between both... hmm.

P.S I am an old school gamer if you haven't noticed
