Duplicate (triplicate) copies in WMP 12 library

Good morning all -

I'm obviously doing something quite wrong - probably something really simple. When I import music from my external drive there are 2 or more copies of each song in each album.

Yesterday I spent my holiday deleting all existing music (120G) and reinstalling to see if that would clear the problem. No. Same issue.

WMP 12 is the default. I'm running 32 bit but am contemplating blowing the 64 version to start over. Have Carbonite for important info.
Should I reload WMP 12? Go back a version?
Any suggestions?

Clear music library

I worked for several hours on this one. I was getting the same thing, duplicate or more songs in the same library.

I found that if you open Windows Media Player (not Media Center). You can go to Tools - Advanced - Restore Media Library. Media Center and Media Player automatically repopulate the library. When it repopulated, it only had one entry for each song.

Several people have been having this same issue, so spread the word. Hopefully, Microsoft will provide a patch or an easy way in Media Center to restore the media library.

How to find "Restore Media Library"

Where is "Restore Media Library" ? I can't even find a Tools button in my version, I think it is the latest one.

You'll need to display the Menu bar:

in Library view, click the "Organize" button, choose "Layout", then "Show menu bar".

Duplicates

I have tried everything and I still have duplicates everywhere.
In my Indigo Girls album I have 12 copies of one song, "Hammer and Nail".
I don't mind using WMP as a tool for watching videos, but as far as keeping a music library goes, it sucks.
I realize it is a free media player, and nobody is forcing me to use it, but I cannot understand why Microsoft would create a monster like this.
Thanks for the advice and help,
Mickmac
