Duplicated BBC channels since retune

Hello,

I am having a peculiar problem .. I've been using W7 Media Centre for a couple of years without incident, but since the recent retune I'm having problems with some channels, mostly BBC (I suspect it's just a single multiplex) being repeated in the channel list. Only one of the repeated channels actually receives a signal.

Moving up & down the channels is odd, if there are two channel 1's for instance, down from BBC 2 gets no signal, down again shows BBC 1. At present, in fact, I have three instances of BBC1 and BBC2.

I have tried clearing the configuration right down by removing the channel data (found some instructions to delete the database) and retuned, but the multiple channels keep on coming back over time.

Anybody else spotted this and know what the cause is?

Thanks!

Andy

I don't use media centre - but there is an analogue switch off going on right now - might be causing odd issues.

The duplicate channels with no signal are from adjacent regions. In the guide, right click and disable unwanted channels. Once you have WMC set up as you like it, you can stop retunes by going into Registry Editor (type regedit in search box) and finding the entry

hkey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\BackgroundScanner

and setting

PeriodicScanIntervalSeconds Dword = 7FFFFFFF
PeriodicScanEnabled Dword = 0

Blackgold BGT3650 Quad HD TV card. Also have various 3770 + 4770K render boxes.
That sounds very plausible, I'll certainly give that a try.

Thank you!!

I have the same problem- after the last digital retune (analogue now gone) I have 2 of all BBC channels.
I too thought they were picking up 2 transmitters ( I live between Sandy Heath and Waltham) But even if I put in my location as SG19 2NH (the postcode of the Sandy Heath transmitter, I still get 2 of all BBC channels.

Although I think there have been many improvements in W7, tuning is not one of them. It would help if you could get some transmitter info in the guide to help eliminate the duplicates (eg right click or on mouse over)

A few months ago the complete setup of the digital frequencies in the London region was changed. You will have to delete all the channels and re-tune again to get the new ones.

Yep ,,, done that. Complete reset, deleted databases , edited registry, full setup again and guess what - duplicate channels

I just noticed. I have some duplicates also but they are unchecked in the Edit Channels screen in Settings so don't show in the guide.

I think that it all depends on whereabouts in the country you live. In some places, you can receive signals from more than one transmitter. For example, here in Doncaster we can receive signals from 2 transmitters, namely Emley Moor and Belmont. Most of the programs are identical, and the main difference is the regional news program/bulletin. Our main transmitter is Belmont, so on both of our TVs (one with a set-top box, the other integrated) receive BBC1 from there on Channel 1. However, the regional news is centred on Hull, whereas Sheffield/Leeds is more relevant to us. This comes from the Emley Moor transmitter. Here lies an anomaly. The channel number for this is different on both TVs (admittedly, they are not on the same aerial). Go figure.

Hello,

Just to note that the registry fix above from 3D Jed has worked a treat for me.

No problems at all since I implemeted that.

Regards,

Andy
