DV2000 refuses to do anything

I have an HP dv2000, an i have Ubuntu 9.04 on it. I was using it one day, and shut it down for a bit, came back to use it, and it does literally nothing. it turns on, but nothing appears on the screen, and it never responds to anything. the hard drive is crashed, but i ordered a new one, put it in, and it was the same deal. the disks in the drive will spin up, act like they are loading, and then stop. any advice?

so on boot you get no boot screen? or does it give you the splash screen then go blanK?
