DVD/CD ROM drive won't load cd

I installed a new HDD and it all seems to run properly BUT I am also trying to install a usb wireless adapter. When I insert the cd into the drive it lights up and spins but nothing comes up on the screen. Any suggestions?

Hi LadyT74 .. Welcome to Seven Forums .. You have a few Options .. [1] Make sure the CD is clean Insert it into the Drive if it does not work Reboot your Laptop .. Leaving it in the Drive [2] Try the Disc in another Computer if it works there transfer the Driver to a flash drive if you have one ..[3] If you know the Make and Model Number of the Adapter you could maybe download the Driver from the net ..Btw does your Dvd/Cd rom work with other Discs .. Or is it just this one?

Hi Maxie. Thank you for your reply. The cd is brand new and is clean, I have rebooted the laptop WITH the cd in it and it still won't load, the disc does work in another computer but I don't currently have a way to transfer it. I just uninstalled the dvd/cd device & had it re-installed and still nothing. Device manager doesn't show a problem with it. It won't play/load any cd or dvd BUT I was able to use the Drivers and Utilities Recovery disc earlier.

Hi there .. I take it you where Re installing the OS ... From the Recovery Disc ? .. If you are able to tell me the Make and Model number of you Adapter .. I will see if i can find a Driver for it ..

As I see, there are two problems.

1. Your laptop optical drive is not reading the driver CD.

2. Because of that you are unable to install the driver for the wireless adapter on your laptop.

For problem No 1, please check whether your optical drive can read other CDs/DVDs. While the possibility of that having gone bad cannot be ruled out, it is also quite possible that the connections were disturbed when the HDD was changed.So check that all connections are secure first.

For problem No. 2, please check DELL Support site for your laptop. You can find all the latest drivers for your model there. Download and install. As simple as that.

Welcome to Seven forums.

It seems like an issue with the DVD drive of the system. You can follow the below link to resolve issues with the DVD drive of the system:

In order to isolate whether its an Windows issue or issue with the Drive we would try to boot the system through a CD.

Insert the "" Drivers,Utilities and Diagnostics Disc "" in the optical drive, and restart the computer.

1. Tap the F12 key during startup until the One Time Boot menu appears.

Note: If the One Time Boot menu does not appear, restart the computer and try again.

2. Press the <Down Arrow> to highlight Boot from CD, and press <Enter>.

3. In the "" Drivers,Utilities and Diagnostics Disc "" menu, select Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics, and press <Enter>.

4. The Dell Diagnostics screen appears it means it has booted through the CD. Please shutdown the Computer and start it normally.

Also, let us know the model of the wireless card you are attempting to install drivers so we can find a download file you for you to get the wireless card working for you.

Right clike the DVD drive in Device Manager...select Uninstall...you will recieve a warning...ignore it and re-boot.
It'll be re-installed automatically on re-boot.
