No access to tray above stops access to factory reset facility via disc.have no idea how to activate recovery partition without disc.

For now you might try Booting from an External DVD Drive (USB DVD Drive). You would also have to make sure you setup the External Drive as a Boot Drive in your CMOS Setup. Then you will be able to use your Recovery Discs. Hope this helps. Typically when you are unable to simply Open a Drive Door, there is a mechanical issue with the Drive that software will not fix.

This is asking me to go to places where confusion (for me) reigns. I learned some lessons some time ago and they were a tad costly. The Drive Door does open, no problems, but it does not recognise the CD.

My own modest searches suggest that it is a registry problem, rumours on the net that I-tunes is to blame. May be right but on my travels I note that I-tunes will not load properly (latest by the way). Several attempts to load that come to nought. The error message there suggests re-installing. Trying an earlier version got me nowhere.

By the way the registry problem alleged by FIXIT and others suggests upper and lower filters could be at the root of problem but no understandable instructions.

I was prepared to do a reset, but everything I have seen suggests that is probably not necessary. The laptop apart from the above is working well,.

Here are the Instructions I received to remove the Upper and Lower Filters for the optical Drive. I followed them with no problem, although this did not fix my issue either. My DVD player reads Most DVDs, just not some of the discs in a course i recently purchased. Here is the link and i hope this helps.

Please go through the procedure on how to delete the Upper and Lower filter for an Optical Drive:-

The problem is now sorted. I found that my IPOD was in fact, somehow locked. An Unlocker cured that. Since then everything is working very well, better than I thought given other peoples comments born of this new Itunes.
