DVD drawer opens when drive is clicked

If I'm in Windows Explorer and inadvertently click the DVD-RW drive, it opens the drawer and asks me to insert a disk. This is a problem because the drive is behind a door on the PC, and also just because it's a general PITA having to dismiss the dialog box.

On my old XP computer I have two optical drives: a CD writer and DVD writer. On that computer, clicking the empty DVD drive displays a dialog box asking for a disk, but it doesn't open the drive drawer. Clicking the empty CD drive does nothing at all, not even a dialog box.

Three drives, three different behaviors. Ideally I'd like _nothing_ to happen when the empty DVD drive is clicked. At the very least, I'd the computer to not open drawer.

Is this configurable?

If I'm understanding you correctly you want to be able to tick on the player and nothing happen. Is that correct?

This tutorial will do what you want, if you use the disable reg file or through gpedit, it will only give you the prompt when

You click the optical drive, I just tried it my self and can confirm it does work. It does remove it from the context menu

But all your burning features are still available as noted in the red box at the top of the tutorial.

Thanks. Required a reboot, but it works. Any way to disable the 'insert disk' prompt as well? I get a spinny mouse curer that lasts a several seconds even after the prompt is dismissed.

Yeah, I got that too. Not that I'm aware of.
