DVD Drive can't read Windows 7 Discs

I have just bought Windows 7 Pro, I initially had a problem with XP reading the disc, and read up to find that enabling autorun works to allow the disc to be read, this worked and I installed Windows 7.

Now that it is installed, I can't read the Windows 7 disc (32 or 64 bit discs) with the new os. I have tried enabling all autorun options, but this does not work. My DVD drive is fine, I can read any other disc perfectly fine. The windows discs can be read in my laptop dvd drives too.

If I make a copy of the disc from my laptop it works fine, although this is not the approach that I would hope that I'd have to take considering that I should be able to use the original.

can anyone assist with this please, thank you.

Was the original downloaded or purchased retain from MS?

I have made a similar post, I think that they are both related to the same issue.

http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/85753-installing-windows-7-64-bit.html

The issue being that, depending on what mode I set the bios in, either SATA or PATA, enables the drive to read it, which is odd, as my dvd drive is IDE, it is definitely not knackered either, it's 2 years old, been looked after and was not cheap at the time of buying either.

I bought it off ebay, it came in a sealed box, apparently purchased from Ingram micro, which I know to be a trusted source. I installed the 32 bit and it registered online fine.

I think it is installing ok now, but still, I'm concerned that PATA mode should effect and ide drive in such a way.

I take it all back, the copy of the 64 bit disc I used works a treat and the original fails to be read regardless of what mode I put the bios in.

Thank you all so much for the input on this issue.

I have come to the conclusion that the reason is that the software that I bought is not genuine, the material that I have been sold does not conform to what that microsoft claim say that it should do.
