dvd drive & HDD on same IDE install windows & ect

i know this is possible but could i install win xp then update it then win7 all on the same ide and if so how would i set the drives up physically and inside the bios
are even clone my 320gb hdd to my 80gb hdd
my 320gb hdd has 284gb free space if cloning is possalbe i could then remove the dvd drive
if not even clone create a usb win7 installer

I'm really not sure what you are asking, but if you plan to install Windows 7, why not just to a clean install? We have a tutorial on doing that with upgrade versions. It should save you some time.

i got to install via usb if not clone R ect. but im thinking via usb will do

reason why i got to install via usb
is that my mobo only has 1 ide but it can handle 2 devices
but having my hdd and dvd drive connected with the same ide cause's issues
so i plan to take out my dvd drive and replace it with the hdd then install win7 via usb without having to even use the dvd drive

It's been a while since I messed with IDE drives, but that sounds like a simple jumper issue. Set the one at the end of the cable to master and the device in the middle to slave, and you shouldn't have any issues.

thats what i thought i set the jumper to master
set the cable to master
set the bios to boot from that hdd
and in return an error keeps displaying telling me no boot able media please press alt+ctrl+del to restart did it and same error
also i removed the dvd drive
the only way it boots to the hdd is if i have the ide slave cable connected

I'm not sure what you mean by setting the cable to master. It should boot if the primary HDD is set to master, even if it is the only device on the cable. If the IDE DVD drive is set to slave, it should boot as well.

well i connected the drive to both ide cable slots slave & master and only the slave allowed it to boot but none the less i removed the hdd from my pc for now i might be back here if i plan on installing it again

The h/d you have listed in your specs is a sata drive.
Why are you talking IDE?

the drive isnt list in my pc specs due to it not being installed to my pc that i mainly use
my 2tbusb hdd is listed as i been using that on my pc since my 360 rrod and my main drive is listed
i got that drive out of my old pc & that is 100% ide only this sata & 1 ide slot sux but gotta do what i gotta do lol

ok got the hdd installed & booting the os from it
installed win7 on it eems every thing is working
