DVD drive issues

Alright, I build a new system, and my DVD drive stopped working as soon as I started to install drivers for my Graphics card. I tried to located the drive in Device manager but oddly it is not showing up. I restarted into bios and saw that the drive was in fact recognized. In windows, I went into the registry files and the UPPER and LOWER filters were not there for the normal delete and restart. I purchased another drive thinking that the first was possibly was faulty, but sadly this second drive doesn't work either. As a last option I threw in my windows disc and restarted to see if it will boot from the disc, which it did.

I am out of options, I could do a new install of windows but I dread downloading the updates yet again, along with drivers and such.

You could try a repair install, which would keep your settings and jazz.

Have you tried downloading drivers from the company site?

I tried to download the DVD drivers, but the install programs tells me I do not have the drive installed. Also I can not do a windows repair without being able to load the disc while booted into windows, that is unless I missed something obvious.

I believe you can have the "windows disk" on a USB device, or you could download an ISO of your version of Windows and mount it on a virtual drive. (I'm not 100% sure that would work, but I suspect it would)

Well now I think I done something very foolish, I found two more open Sata slots, switched my cables around and voila everything works. So either I have a bad sata connection on the motherboard, or it was configured to be a RAID. I am leaning towards the RAID put due to the fact I could see the drives in the BIOS before I switched. Hopefully after I read the motherboard manual again I can figure out why it done that.
