DVD drive not working

When I boot into windows my DVD drive is recognized but when I get into windows it doesn't work.
I used Microsoft FixIt and while it says there is a problem they can't fix it.

So you understand where I'm coming from I have 2 installs of Windows 7 on 2 different drives.
On 1 install the DVD player works just fine but on the other it doesn't work.
To me this seems mind boggling. I've went through the registry as asked. Also verified the installation and everything looks like it should work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ps there are 2 installs because the 1st install go a virus. I was in a big hurry so just installed another copy of windows. When I had some time I got rid of the virus.
Now my wife likes it like that and she used one install and I use the other. Works great.
Thanks a lot for reading this as I could find nothing on the internet about this particular problem.
MILO:(

What is the error code (if there is one) that is displayed in the Device Manager for the drive? That will help in troubleshooting.

There is no error code and in device manager it says the drive is working with no problems. I'm completely baffled as it works fine on another install.

Try the Uninstall/Reinstall procedure. In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the drive to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect it and reinstall it. If there were any Windows corruptions with the drive this usually fixes it.

I've never had the MS Fixit ever fix anything.

I've uninstalled the driver and rebooted. This did not solve the problem but thanks anyway.

Is this the system that you removed the virus? Virus removal, some times, can cause other system problems and ultimately a reinstall may be in order.

Open DevMgr, right click the DVD drive->Properties->Details. Click the pull down menu and look to see if Class Upper Filters and/or Class Lower Filters are listed. If there, click on each and copy/paste what you see (p.s. yea, i know my screen shot is of a disk. But check your DVD device)

This is not the system I removed the virus from. Everything is up to date and I'm running Ultimate on both installs.
There are no upper or lower filters under details in properties of the drive.
Another foolish question. I have the windows installs on 2 different partitions and I don't know which install is which. Is there an easy way to figure this out because if I knew I would reinstall windows.
Thank you

From post #1

I've went through the registry as asked
Who requested you to go through the registry?

Could you post a screen shot of both drives with only one hooded up at a time.

This is puzzling. Could you unhook the drive you are not having the problem with and then boot into the drive you are having a problem with?
Then go into Device Manager and check and update the driver to the DVD.
