dvd drive on dell lattatude 620 make scraching noise what do i do?

i was messing around with dual boot on my pc and when instaling a linux based os my dvd burner in my pc made a nasty scraching noize now i get like 30 min into my instal and it crashes what do i do?

hi well easiest thing to do is replace the drive. not much can do to fix a cd drive. does it make the noise when when you run a cd or dvd? are their scratches on the disk you are using?

i burned like 4 dvd/cds and no more noise but wont burn i have allready replaced it with a new one same problem exists any ideas?
