Hi,
I have laptop Acer 5738z with Vista x64 and I have installed Windows 7 RTM x64 as a second system on it with no trouble, everything works well except DVD drive I can't instal any software from dvd because either dvd stops working during instalation or even not stars at all. On Vista this problem not occurs.
Anyone had this problem too?

Control Panel>>Troubleshooting>>Hardware & Sound:choose Configure device ->this will run build-in hardware autodiagnostic. If still no help open device manager, navigate to CD/DVD section and check you have any error relate to DVD -present it here.Probably you may have problem with UpperFilter,LowerFilter in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -if you have these phrases in this key you have to remove them.Details:Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs but this procedure you have to do it manually because MS Fix it still don't work under Windows 7

relate to DVD:

Try below:
1.Make sure the service Shell Hardware Detection is started and set to AUTO
2.Navigate to key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom and check you have phrase Autorun =1,if is 0 fix it + restart
3.Update driver for DVD (look in Windows Update, munufacturer website)
4.If everything fail download FrogAspi http://www.frogaspi.org/download.htm#frogaspi
(when you download make sure the module is already renamed to wnaspi32.dll -otherwise you have to rename)

if you have x64 system place wnaspi32.dll in C:\Windows\SYSWOW64 again uninstall DVD driver + restart

if you have x32 system place wnaspi32.dll in C:\Windows\System32 again uninstall DVD driver + restart

5.If stiill nothing help unistall program for CD virtualization like Alcohol 120,Deamon and likely and all programs for burning DVD
6.You can also try uninstall IDE controlers in device manager -system reinstall it after restart.
7.Updating drivers for chipset and update BIOS also maybe helpful

Besides in device manager in DVD section: Isn't any error warning relate DVD,no yelow triangle or down arrow on DVD?

Apart from this trouble I have also problem with connection to the internet. I use a cable connection which on vista works fine but on Win 7 doesn't.

Make sure you don't have any double or more firewalls, antiviruses -if yes you have to uninstall them

Next Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type

netsh winsock reset

+ restart
ps. a poza tym to pozdro :)
Ja tez pozdrawiam rodaka :)

about the same: my dvd sometimes shows up, sometimes doesn't. If it doesn't show i reboot with a bootable dvd in it. That seems to help.

None of advices from my previous posts (2 and 4) no help?I think when your DVD missing you have error 22 in device manager:down arrow on DVD "device is disabled" -check it I have right or not.Apart of them I present interesting thread where responsible for missing DVD was USB HDD.If you have any USB HDD unplug it. See:DVD Drives go missing Vista64 sp2 - Vista Forums

for me at least, since it works most of the times but not all of the times, and when it works it works fine all your very good suggestions are to no avail.

It's the same with my audio, if i want to play via the speakers, i first have to play a few seconds via digital else only the left speaker works.

The drivers and 7 are not quite done yet.

Unfortunately not, now I'm working on Vista and trying to update bios but I also have trouble with this, on 7 I still can't get access to the internet to download updates. It is all strange, maybe my notebook is unlucky :/

Maybe any non-typical unnecessary driver not relate to burn programs or drive virtualization cause this:

Make log from drivers -two methods (to choose)

METHOD I

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on this file as admin) and type:

wmic sysdriver get name,Description,DisplayName,Name,pathname,startmode >%userprofile%\Desktop\Driver.txt

METHOD II

Run PowerShell (command line) and type

get-WmiObject -class Win32_systemdriver |format-table DisplayName,Name,pathname,startmode >$env:userprofile\Desktop\Driver.txt

On your desktop appear Driver.txt file->attache it to post

@tutis
relate to network issue
in Control>>Panel>>Troubleshooting>>Connect to the internet <-Have you tried this option?

I have found solution to this problem,
My dvd drive was working fine with windows vista installed. so i installed vista first then put the windows 7 disk and instead of formatting (custom) i choose to "upgrade" to windows 7. now it works like a charm.
