"DVD Drive Won't Boot"

Hoping that I just need to change something in the bios that I don't know about...

This is a new problem on a computer I've been using for 2 years. I formatted my sata hard drive to reinstall windows 7. When I booted the pc back up I got this error...

"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."

So I made my dvd drive my bootable drive and rebooted, and it only went back to the same screen. I tried several different ways and I CANNOT get my pc to boot to the DVD which I am certain works. (used it on my other pc)

I also (previously) tried moving my formatted sata drive to my other computer and installing windows 7 with success. Booted it and checked that it worked, then moved it back to the desired computer and I get the same error as before.

"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."

By the way I have recently updated my bios to the latest version.

Any ideas?

hi and greetings to the forums :) so you are trying to boot the windows 7 disc to install it?
you have to set the bios to boot to the dvd/cd drive
check the boot order in the BIOS, make sure the dvd is in the order preferably before the hard drive
Make sure your sata drives are set as IDE and not raid
if you have checked these have you checked the dvd connector to see if its loose?

Yes my sata is running in IDE mode.

Just for kicks I grabbed my other DVD burner out from my other pc and plug it in and I noticed something...

I plugged the power into the DVD drive first and it green lighted and started spinning. Then I plugged the IDE cable in and the drive stopped, no lights no spiny spiny. Pulled the IDE cable back out at it fired back up again. I repeated that like a monkey for a few minutes... Anybody know whats going on?

What are the jumper settings on the IDE DVD drive ? Is there a second IDE drive on this ribbon cable, what are it's jumper settings ?

Hello danbeaulieu.

"By the way I have recently updated my bios to the latest version."

Did you do this before or after the errors started, maybe you've bricked the BIOS with the update.
