I keep hoping that a new technology will come along soon to replace dvd drives so I can take these pieces of junk I've collected over the years and watch them burn. I finally got an Asus drive that I thought might actually work better and it did for a few months... now I'm back to getting read errors again on some disks. It usually just gets progressively worse until I have to replace the drive. Anyone happen to have a recommendation for a good dvd burner drive for sata interface? I really wouldn't mind spending a bit more for one as I just want something that will work for more than a few months. Thanks!

If you've been getting read errors from different burners, I'd suggest a
different approach, aside from purchasing yet another drive.

For instance, have you:

- checked the 'defective' disks on another pc to see if they still produce read errors?

- replaced the data drive on the burner?

- tried burning your disks at a slower speed ~and~ having the burn verified?

- tried alternate media?

As for spending extra on a new drive, there was a time when I would only purchase considerably
pricier Plextor drives because they were "the best". Those days are gone. My current burner is
an Asus and it set me back a whopping 20 bucks. It's fast, quiet & flawlessly handles everything
I throw at it.
