DVD Errata

I don't expect anyone to be perfect, even a corporate business, but since I have been cataloging DVDs, I have run into a lot of errors printed on the keep case covers. Usually, these are small and wouldn't influence whether a person might buy it or not, but one that I just finished, dated a movie in 1943 in color, when actually it was in 1932 in B&W. They even got the director's first name entirely wrong. It kind of makes one feel as though buying a DVD is a grab bag.

It would almost make one wonder if the DVD's were almost perfect counterfeits of the originals.

Disclamer: seekermeister you did not specify whether the printed keep case covers are full color studio versions or generic computer printed (white background & text) which would nullify my reply.

No, the cover appears to be quite authentic and tastefully designed, until you pay attention to the details, and even then you wouldn't notice unless you were very well versed on a movies details. I can't remember where I bought that particular DVD, but I think that it was at WalMart.

I'm not perfect either, because they did get the director's name right, I guess i got my eyes crossed, because I thought that they said the first name was Jack, instead of Frank. The only Jack in the movie is Jack Larue, which I didn't even recognize until I Googled a picture of him, and even then I'm not sure that I do now. I thought it curious that this actor was listed on the cover credits, when Adolph Menjou was not, even though he was a very prominent actor in his day, and played the side kick role to Gary Cooper and appeared throughout the movie.

I have seen a lot of other movies that touted some actor that had an obscure role in a movie before, but that was due to the fact that they later became stars themselves. I do not think that I would consider Jack Larue a star.

Also we have to take into account that these movies were first cataloged/printed by hand before the computer age and any discrepancy/misprint then could be carried into today's digital age.
