dvd / graphics problem

I have a (virtually) brand new pc with windows 7 64 bit. The graphics card is
1GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5770

After switching my pc on today and trying to play a dvd i get this error message


'Windows media player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card'

The exact same DVD played perfectly well yesterday.

Ive downloaded the latest driver from the graphics card website and tried to install it, but I get this error message

'CATALYST install manager has stopped working'
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available'

I tried running it in compatibility mode and its exactly the same


I even tried to install the original driver that came with my pc, and I got the same error message.

can anyone help ?

ive gone into windows media player but there are no menu items for

Tools -> options -> dvd

in fact there are none of the usual sort of menu items, only organise, stream, create playlist

where would i find tools ?

Ive got windows 7 professional 64 bit version, im supposed to have media player 12, but I cant find any of the usual menu options. For instance, there is usually a help menu item, with an about option which in other programs would give me the version number, but here theres nothing, how am I supposed to make changes to things like preferences, etc ?

Hi misuk11, sorry for the delay.

To display the Menu bar, press the Alt key once. To display it permanently, go to View -> Show Menu bar.
