Solved DVD (ide) errors on verify

Have tried several "burn" programs and when I set it to verify the burn, it produces a lot of errors mostly i/o. Is there a SW program that would test/verify the DVD player itself? Player is approximately 5 yrs old NEC 3550A

The symptoms do sound like bad burns. Do you always set your burn speed to 4x or lower? Using high burn speeds, especially on cheap media (no inference intended), is pretty much a sure way to get bad burns.

There are several programs around; SiSoftSandra, Passmark, IfiniDyne CD/DVD Diagnostic, Nero DriveSpeed and Opti Drive Control (Which is from the same people who created the Nero Drivespeed utility).

Optical drives only operate at SATA 1 speeds (1.5mbps), so unless you have no SATA ports on your Mobo I think, given that typical prices for SATA drives are around $20, you'd be better off dumping the IDE drive...

Tx for the response, I finally located the Nero Opti-drive SW and the drive failed horribly. Unknown if IDE problems, dirty optics, old age etc, but ordered a SATA drive 19.95 should be here in a couple of days. I did update the firmware in the drive to the latest version (2007), used 4x on the latest burns, no errors during burns, but verify was a no go. Original problem was trying to load win8, saying files were missing/corrupted?? but so far have made 10 costers, Fuji DVD+R. Hope the new one will solve the problem. In the mean time, loaded the W8 iso on a flash drive and will probably have a go at it this weekend.

Yes, typical of a failing drive. I've thrown more than a dozen out over the years. Nothing lasts like it used to.

I suggest you stop using Fuji media. Suspect manufacturing.

Buy from an established house like Newegg, Amazon, or SuperMediaStore. Avoid Best Buy stuff.
Taiyo Yuden (JVC) and Verbatim (Mitsubishi) have for years been the top quality discs, and still are. Highly recommended.
