hi all. I just formatted my hdd. i had a hacker and my whole system was comprimised-according to yahoo customer support. my email was hacked, we had a talk. he wasn't giving me bs. anyway, i formatted my hdd, the original hd that came with the computer. it had windows vista 32. I installed an ssd, with windows 7 64. that is what i am using right now. however, before i clean installed the ssd, i was going to load the 64 bit windows seven onto the original hhd. when i put in the disc, i am getting all kinds of issues, from it saying that the disc is udf. as well as the disc is blank. i have used the disc to do a reinstall in the past, same computer and disc. only now the disc won't read or i need a udf reader. not sure why its giving me the issues it is, but bottom line is the disc is original, and my dvd drive won't read it. it won't even read the data.

oh, when i restart, and have the dvd player boot first, it say no boot cd. i open, then close. still nothing. It should take me to the windows reinstall screen, right?

any thoughts are welcomed
thank you in advance.

Two things to try.

Check the dvd connections to and from the device. Remember, you were in there, and just maybe the data cable is not fully seated one place or the other. Unplug both sides and replug securely. Try the install again.

Borrow a friends dvd drive and swap out. See if it boots the W7 installer. If that works, stop the install and put yours back. If it fails, your dvd drive is caput. Replace, they're cheap enough!

i pulled the cover off, and rechecked all connections. All good. I put a blank cd in there, and everything was fine. went to auto play and everything immediately. I have seen a couple messages today. One, boot manager error. This was one of the first messages. Then after like ten times of trying to get it to read the disc, a notpad "readme" thingy popped up, saying this is disc can't be read because its in udf format. It doesn't make sense, cuz i have used THIS disc on THIS computer before, trying to do the SAME thing. Is it really just the drive and it is getting fussy? or is my WELL PROTECTED and not scratched disc really screwed up? or am i missing some kinda file? device manager says it is working properly and the firmware as well as drivers are up to date.

Next step, try disc somewhere else?
Thanks for help everyone- I REALLY appreciate the effort!

Just so ya know, it's still saying no data on the disc, and it takes like 5 minutes just to read it and tell me that. says "no bytes" 0.

Be sure you remove the drive with the Vista install on it before trying to install w7 on the SSD.
I think you should use all the virus and malware scans you have on the Vista install. See below my sig for some links.

Hi alien1979,

I am a liitle bit confused now.

In place of the old HDD, you have already installed an SSD and have also installed Windows 7 64bit on it and using it now. Right? And you have installed Win7 64bit with the same Win7 media and same optical drive?????

Now where is that old HDD - which you say you had already formatted and trying to install Windows 7 64bit - plugged in now? On another machine? with a different optical drive and same Win7 media?

Or you are pulling out the SSD completely from that one machine, plugging in your old HDD and using the same optical drive and same media and trying to install?

How and where did you format your old HDD?

Hope I am not confusing you now. :)

And who is the manufacturer and what is the model no. of your HDD?

no, i haven't tried the disc on another computer yet, i haven't had the chance. also, i formatted the hdd, so vista is all gone.
jumanji-- the ssd is not replacing the hdd, it is in addition to. yes, i have used same optical media and same disc before.
as for the old hdd, it is still where is was, just wiped clean with a format, on the same machine as ssd. The ssd is staying as well as the hdd, i just want windows seven on both in case of a crash, i can still get on the computer. I formatted the hdd with windows. i did a quick format. It seems to have put it back to factory, and there is nothing on it. not sure of the manufacturer of the hdd, but the disc can't be read from the running, ssd operated windows 7 that i am using to talk to you right now. i hope i have answered everyone.
thanks for all the help

You still haven't determined if the dvd drive is okay by a swap or trying known good media in it.

You still haven't determined if your W7 media is okay by trying it in a friends pc. If it boots up and wants to start an install, you can cancel at that point.
