Solved Dvd+r not recognised

Hi guys

I need a little advice with something. I've just been given a box of 500 Dvd+r disks from a company that's closing down, however my bd-rom can't seem to read them. Looking back through all my disks it seems I have always inadvertently always used dvd- or cd-. Whats the difference betwenn the + and - disks and why can't wy drive read them. SIW says it should be able to see them.


Any advice appreciated

The DVD-R DVD+R difference can easily be summarized by the following:

• The DVD-R/RW standard was developed by Pioneer, and is used primarily by Apple and Pioneer. These “minus“ discs can only be written to in one layer on the discs surface. In addition, this format is supported by the DVD forum, but is in no way an industry standard. DVD-R/RW discs are cheaper than the “plus” format.
• The DVD+R/RW format is supported by Philips, Dell, Sony, HP, and Microsoft. These discs can be written to in multiple layers, giving them slightly better and more disc storage than the “minus“ format. Because of this additional capacity, they are slightly more expensive than “minus“ discs.

Interesting but damned annoying this drive appears to be in an odd 11% that wont read dvd+

The disks were given to me for free so nothing ventured nothing gained. Reading around a little seems dvd drives can be temperamental to the make of disk also so its not worth it at this time. I'll just stick em on ebay lol.
Odd that the drive states it will read + though.

I should have gone to Specsavers as I didn't notice you'd been given the discs.

For what it's worth, I always use Sony DVD+R or DVD+RW discs and have had no problems......................yet.

I've got a friend bringing me a dvd+ disk by Sony later will see if it reads that one.

You might want to give the 500 DVD-R discs to your local school or a local charity if you're not going to to use them.

lol + disks you mean Specsavers Opticians - Designer Glasses, Sunglasses, Contact Lenses & Eyecare.

Curious to know what brand/model optical drive you have, whether it is running on the latest firmware. Also download and install DVD Identifier from DVD Identifier - Your DVD, HD DVD & Blu-ray Companion and upload the screenshot, if possible.

That will not work as the drive cannot initialize the disk as it cannot read it.
