Hi there
I have some DVD's recorded on a bog standard Panasonic DVD / Hard Disk Video recorder. I've been using DVD-RAM disks in LP mode 2 movies per disc.

I'd like to copy these to a DVD+RW so someone else can play the movies on their Video recorder which doesn't support DVD-RAM.

Do I need to Author the DVD+RW disk or can I just copy the folders from the DVD-RAM disk to the DVD+RW disk.

Any special software needed or will bog standard NERO etc do it.

(There is an "elephantine" way I can do this -- copy the DVD-RAM movies (in LP mode I usually have 2 per disc) back to the DVD recorders internal hard disk and then re-copy to DVD+RW where it will "finalize and create top level menus" but this is going to take approx 4 hrs per disk).

Cheers

jimbo

TmpGenc works well to convert RAM format. You need to copy the DVD_RTAV folder on your ram disk to your hard drive, then use tmpgenc dvd author (select create new project, add dvd, tmpgenc will recognise the RTAV folder as a dvd) and you can then reauthor it into VOB files etc, then burn as a normal dvd.

Theres a guide here.

Converting DVD-RAM Recordings To DVD-R @ The Digital Recorder

Of course tmpgenc is a time barred trial, unless you already have a license. There may also be other apps that can do the job equally well.

Thanks that works a treat.

I can create the stuff on a Virtual Machine during the time barring period -- thyen just re-install on another VM after expiration. (VM's are VERY useful for this type of stuff).

Works a treat just tried it.

Can't play the movie on the VM of course but the autthoring works fine.

Repped you + 1.

Thanks

Thanks. Glad it worked well for you. I no longer feel energetic enough to encode video but I played around with a lot of tools while i was at it and tmpgenc is a favourite. :D
