DVD-RW Drive Problems

I have read through the forums and haven't seen anything exactly as this problem, so i thought I'd see what you guys think.

Shortly after installing win7 (about 24hrs after) my DVD-RW drive on my laptop stopped working. It no longer recognizes that a cd is present. If I completely remove the drive (drivers and physically) and start from stratch, it works for a short period of time (not fullly, just recognizes cd's) I have yet to successfully burn any cd's or dvd's. Attempting to burn usually triggers the cdrom become inoperative (although it goes inop anyways even if i dont try to burn)

After browsing the event logs i found an event that seems to happen anytime i turn my computer from a full power down state. (screenshot included) but it says:

So, any takers? oh and the drive worked fine in xp and vista ultimate, also worked fine for the install of win7.

Update: The status of the drive seems to fluctuate...sometimes it has no errors, other times it does...i'll include some extra pics of the error when it does show. Also the drive name changes sometimes its just "CD ROM DRIVE" or "DVD-RW Drive" or the full model name TSSTcorp...etc

Hope this works you could try this if it doesnt - there is also a chipset driver there you can check the date with what is installed in device manager - if you click on "Ricoh Driver" it has the install instructions

If any of the drivers wont install - because they are written for another OS rather than W7 do the following :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

unfortunately the firmware was already up to date ( i had tried that earlier) but i ran it anyways under compatibility to be sure, did the same thing, ran fine until i tried to do something with the cd (read or write to it) then it stopped working again.

in regards to that chipset, i guess i should have mentioned im running the x64 version of win7...that chipset program doesnt work in x64, any alternatives?

Its a grim picture -you could of course check your bios, but you seem to be running out of options, have you considered an external dvdrw /cdrw drive? I just had a look to see what price they are, and they seem much the same as an internal drives- looked at a pioneer usb ext portable drive. Worth considering if everything else works ok.
You could search the site for the dvd problem as a last resort - i just did - a lot of posts though -

Well thanks for the help i'll see if anyone else can come up with something...its not a huge deal, i have to other computers with working cd-drives, so its not urgent.
