My old XP machine died. I was using DVD Shrink + Nero 6 to back up my dvd collection. Now that is gone. I undersand dvd shink will work with windows 7 but I dont think Nero 6 will.

So do I need a different burning software to work with DVD shrink or does windows 7 have it all ready?

Thanks.

Win7, just like XP, has its own burning feature which works just fine, but you can, of course, go for alternatives. Nero 6 is quite old and if you want to keep using Nero, update to a newer version.

Same as Gornot.
However, I use a free third-party software called ImgBurn.
It works just fine on my Windows 7 system and you can get it here: The Official ImgBurn Website

NOTE: There is a portable version available as well.

I think kf9vh was wondering if anything newer will work in combo with shrink's 'burn with nero' option.
The answer is: No.
If your still using shrink you can burn to folder, then like others have suggested imgburn is great, cdburnerxp is good and also has a lightscribe option if your into that.

There is a hack for dvd shrink that will allow you to burn with imgburn.

Hi there
you might find a version of NERO 7 still lying around -- this DOES work even in W7 X-64.

The free software is good too but I only mention NERO 7 because it still works. Anything later is so full of bloat and Multi-Media editing stuff that most people probably don't use anyway that I have no intention of using Nero again once V7 packs up.

What tends to work in NERO that IMageburn has problems is that when you CREATE an IMAGE file (.iso or .nrg for Nero) you can use Alcohol 52% to mount the virtual image. Sometimes the ISO file created by IMAGEBURN doesn't mount but the NERO ones always do.

I use AnyDvd to create a DVD image from the original -- this removes the CSS stuff and the region code but leaves the image UNCOMPRESSED which I store on a HUGE HDD -- I might want to create a DVD again to play on a Large screen or another domestic DVD player .

THEN I use DVD shrink (after encryption and regional coding has been removed) if I need smaller files for viewing on a laptop etc.

These files also can be mounted with Alcohol52% so I don't actually need to physically burn DVD's again EVER. (Or Audio CD's either).

Link to alcohol52% free edition

Alcohol 52% Free Edition

(Note some other "Virtual Drive" emulation programs won't mount Audio CD's or Dual layer DVD images -- Alcohol52% works just fine).

Cheers

DVD Shrink and imgBurn work great together. I generally go DVD Shrink to ISO first then burn later.
