DVD will not boot, CD will.

Hi, I am trying to install Windows 7 (clean install) 64 bit edition. I just re build my computer with new motherboard, ram cpu etc...

I have burned the DVD and it works in my laptop, pulls up the installation etc.
But in my new computer, it complains to enter a bootable drive when I put the dvd in.
I tried a CD that has windows XP on it and it boots up to install just fine, it appears to not recognize the dvd disk for some reason.

Any tips on how I can get past this issue?

So the DVD works in Laptop on booting up, but does not work in my Desktop. The CD bootable disk does work for XP.

Hi and welcome

I wonder if the destop isn't older and maybe uses a different format media. laptop probably uses dvd -RW, and desktop maybe dvd+RW. Or it may be that the dvd player in the doesktop is just older or dirty.

The thing is, before I replaced the motherboard, Ram and CPU I had a dual boot system with windows 7 32bit edition. So somehow I was able to get the dvd to boot with my old system. It would have been the same dvd drive, the only difference now is I have this new equipment, and I am trying a 64 bit edition with a different DVD. I am going to try a few different media. I have tried a dvd+r. I will try a dvd-rw and a different brand of dvd+r.

Is it possible that this motherboard is not recognizing this drive as a dvd drive and only a cd drive?

I suspect a problem with the DVD drive. Is it a new/old drive? Have you been able to read DVD media recently on it?

hey can you also check to see if the bios is upgraded, and the dvd has a current driver

It isn't new, it is a few years old. I have been able to use it in windows before trying this. I have other drives around that I can use to see if they work.

Hopefully it is something simple like this.
