dvd writer makes noise

hey guys got a problem with a dvd writer. it makes noise when i insert a phillips dvd. however if i insert a memorex dvd i have no problems at all. laptop is an asus u56e bal 7. if i need to change the drive how do i do it. it has a weird bevel like thing for it. where could i buy a new one. thanks in advance

I've found that these DVD drives will make noise from time to time. I would suspect the media and not the drive as you say the Memorex media is quiet. If it turns out to be the drive they are very easy to change out and not very expensive. I would keep trying other media and maybe it's just having problems with Phillips media????
