DVDRW drive doesn't always open

sometimes if I hit the button to eject the drive, it acts like its about to eject but doesn't, and if I try again the same result occurs. If I hit it two or three times it will eject but it doesnt always at the first push of the button. Any reason behind this perhaps?

I have no idea but maybe it's sticking or perhaps the drive is going bad. What happens if you right click on the drive and then click Eject from the menu there ? How old is the drive and does it get a lot of use ?
