I have a new desktop with a DVI-D socket. The graphics card in my old desktop used DVI-1 so I have a DVI-1 cable. It has C-1 through C-4 pins that prevent its use with the DVI-D socket.

Can I simply substitute a DVI-D cable to resolve the mismatch.

Might there exist an adapter to accomplish the same thing? Might this be a less expensive solution?

I'using a borrowed monitor and will soon be buying a new monitor.

I will be doing photo editing on the new system. Has anyone got a suggestion for a good value in a monitor for this task?I

I have limited access to the web until I get the new system connected via a new ISP Next week.

Thanks,
John

Thanks, Snick,

My problem is that the extra pins on the DVI-1 male connector (cable) prevent its mating with the DVI-D female (video card) where there are no matching D 1-4 'pin holes' above and below the 'horizontal slot.'

At age 80 it is hard for me to shop in a store in these 'interesting times' so I want to do the simplest fix that will certainly work.

I get the sense that a DVI-D cable will work.

Am I correct?

I have an appointment with a Comcast installer (community not my first choice) Monday at mid morning.

Thanks
John
