Dvorak keyboard layout problem

Hi,

I'm just setting up a new laptop, with Win7HP, 64bit. I use the Dvorak keyboard layout.

I'm getting frequent instances in Chrome of the layout shifting to qwerty. This would happen rarely on XP, but it's at least daily on W7.

When it happens, it's relegated to Chrome. It does not manifest in other apps that I might open. So it can't be a case of accidental hitting the switching hotkey, right? Nonetheless I've just disabled the hotkey in CP.

The other program I use a lot is Word 03. I haven't seen this happen there, though I haven't used it much on this machine yet.

When this happens in Chrome, it affect edit boxes. But I don't believe application hotkeys are affected. It seems like a corruption of the layout interpretation rather than a clean full switch.

I still have the standard US qwerty layout listed in Control Panel. I guess my next step is to delete it. But I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this kind of problem.

Thanks,
Paul

I saw that when I was researching this problem from the Chrome side, and participated in that thread before I started my own specific to my problem: Chrome, Win7 and the Dvorak keyboard layout - Google Chrome Help

A Chrome extension probably would complicate things. My whole machine is supposed to be set to dvorak, so I'd like to get to the root of the problem.

Thanks,
p.

Ctrl-shift shouldn't do anything that I'm aware of. And this morning I disabled the hotkey that was assigned to change language, leftAlt-leftShift. But as I wrote, if it was an accidental hotkey trip, it should have affected the whole system.

I also saw that dvorak assistant. I've downloaded it, but don't plan on using it anytime soon, at least I hope not to.

I have been using Dvorak for about 8 years now. And never have I had the problems I am having under a new install of Win7 Pro. After much frustration, i think i finally figured it out.
On the screen where you add the Dvorak layout, You must change the Default in The Drop Down Box. I totally missed this, and now that I have set it to Dvorak, no more switching.

Control Panel > Ease of Use > Change How Keyboard Works > (scroll to bottom) Add A Dvorak layout > Change Keyboards
Change the Default Keyboard in the Drop Down Box. After you have Dvorak set as default, you should be able to delete the US layout.
I know many are frustrated and I hope to help at least one person. Thanks.

Go Dvorak !
