I'm back.

We've had a good, if cold, time.

Travelled down on Monday, but late setting off due to the weather and road conditions locally (the company picks people up from home with feeder mini-buses, and some areas were treacherous - even our driver skidded slightly when he picked us up). Main journey uneventful, and conditions improved as we went further south. Still bitterly cold when we got off the coach at service stations and on the ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne.

Tuesday was a free day, so we went for a walk along the front to Shanklin, which is the next place from Sandown, and then back along the cliff top road and path.

On Wednesday we went to Cowes and Newport, but Thursday's excursions were cancelled on the advice of the Police as the island had suffered what is considered to be for them an extremely rare event - a heavy covering of snow. Public transport was withdrawn, and even the Police took their vehicles off the roads. Can't say that we were too disappointed though, as we had been due to visit Isle of Wight Pearl and do the round-the island-tour on that day (we've already been twice before on previous trips).

The food and accomodation was excellent.

Friday's journey back home was uneventful, but the further north we came the worse the general conditions were. The motorways were clear, but some of the service stations we passed needed care both on foot and in vehicles. The last one we stopped at, Tibshelf on the M1, was very heavily affected by snow and according to the temperature gauge on the coach was -4 degrees C.

We arrived back home just after 4-45 ish, and our driveway is thick snow, about 12 inches or so deep. I've got to shift that tomorrow morning so that I can get the car out.
