I thought I'd bring you all a little quiz to exercise those grey cells.

1. What is the connection between these seemingly unrelated words ? hijack, defence, first, unopened, stupid All of these words contain a sequence of three letters in alphabetical order.
2. Can you explain how 4 - 1 = 5 ? Roman numerals. IV=4, I=1, V=5. Take the I away from IV leaving behind the V.
3. How many gifts are delivered by My True Love in the song The Twelve Days of Christmas ? A simple sum. 1x12+2x11+3x10+4x9+5x8+6x7+7x6+8x5+9x4+10x3+11x2+12x1=364
4. Can you prove that you have 11 fingers (for this question, thumbs also count as fingers) ? Start with the little finger of the right hand and count down towards the thumb: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6. Now, say Plus and, using the fingers of your left hand count up 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. So you have 6+5=11.
5. Can you decipher the following:

   • 23 P of C in the H B 23 Pairs of Chromosomes in the Human Body.

   • 13 S on the U S F 13 Stripes on the United States Flag.
6. A movie actor/director died on this day (25th December). He was famous for having a cane and a bowler hat. Who was he, and in which year did he die ? Charles (Charlie) Chaplin, 1977.
7. Again on this day (25th December), what object was stolen from Westminster Abbey and in which year ? The Stone of Scone, 1950.
8. In which year was the popular Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol written and first published ? 1843.
9. An easy one this: Who is the main character in the above novel ? Ebeneezer Scrooge
10. Can you pair up the following carols with their correct tunes (title of carol; tune):
    • O come, all ye faithful; Mendelssohn Adeste Fideles
    • In the bleak mid-winter; Irby Cranham
    • Angels, from the realms of glory; Adeste Fideles Iris
    • Hark! the herald angels sing; Cranham Mendelssohn
    • Once in royal David's city; Iris Irby
