Dxgmms1.sys bluescreen and more...

Thank you once again for the reply. I am somewhat savy with computers. I have built my computer, installed my OS, and I removed a blue screen before, but I can't seem to solve this one.

Indeed I do have AMD Overdrive installed, but I rarely use it and have never intentionally overclocked with it. (I tried a year ago and didn't like it.) I had my system OC'd to 4ghz before all this blue screening, but turned it back down to 3ghz to ensure that wasn't the cause. (By the way, the reason I have the 1075t is because it was the same price as the 1055t, and its base speed is 3ghz.)

So... just in case AMD OD is doing funky stuff, I got rid of it.

Also, the last time I installed the directx runtime was on 10/14/11, so I am unsure if it has been updated at all since. Possibly the cause for this is an outdated driver?

Bad news, I got another bluescreen, but it was not dxgmms1.sys. I got a bluescreen that said win32k.sys. My minidump is attatched. Thanks...

BTW: Do you know if this is software or hardware?

And sorry for not posting my system specs earlier, I don't know if this could help:

It was the same one..:

HTML:
FAULTING_IP:
dxgmms1!VIDMM_GLOBAL::ReferenceAllocationForSubmission+98
fffff880`05d9efe8 48035020 add rdx,qword ptr [rax+20h]

This is a directx file. Are you sure you downloaded the latest from Microsoft?
However, sometimes a mobo of graphics card manufacturer has some special settings...

So what we normally try is do a full de-install of graphics stuff as described in earlier post, check with driversweeper. Reboot, your system comes up in a default screen... etc then load newest from manufacturer. If that does not help, back to an older version that was proven to work. If that doesn't help, get individual packages (like directx from its manufacturer direct.)

Make sure you've done these steps... next test:

Try this free video stress test: FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net
FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

Be SURE to watch temps!!!

Alright, when running Furmark, the gpu ran (very?) hot. It went to 85 C and pulled the fan from 27% to 40% then maxed out at 87/89 C. I read that the 5800 series runs pretty hot, but is this too hot?

I also made sure I downloaded the official directx installer by Microsoft.

XFX which is my graphics card manufacturer recommends to always update the drivers. (most of the time at least)
I guess since update 11.8 came out, I will update.

I probably won't be buying another AMD/ATI graphics card again.

Again same one...

One last thing I'd try: de-install Catalist.
Use ONLY the graphics drivers not the suite.
We have seen problems with the suite before though I haven't in this version. It's worth a try.

If that doesn't help, do me a favor and upload ALL of the JCGriff stuff again an not just hte lastest dump. Want to check that before the final verdict might be to indeed rma the card

Let's try to be complete as far as all drivers and other possible signs in the dump go. This means that nothing really stands out that I can prove but there are signs of possible problems:

1. Renew / get newest for a wireless driver from 2007 here: Support Home Page

2. As a test, remove Norton completely, see below, and temporarily install free Avast! or MSE.
Please see these links for uninstalling your AV:
Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase
or here

Ultimate Collection of Uninstallers / Removal Tools for All Popular Anti-Virus Software - Tweaking with Vishal

Then reboot.
Sometimes these uninstallers do not remove all they should out of Registry:
Run CCleaner, both regular and registry.

Next install your preferred AV immediately.

3. A possible problem with usbaapl64.sys. Part of your Apple iPod or iPhone connection. As a test - de-install.

last: some drivers that should be ok through Windows Update.. seem not to be... Just to be sure:
You also have some problems with Windows Update
Please go to your Maintenance Center and check the Windows Update status. Make sure you are up to date, do them one by one manually if needed.
