Solved dynamic IP question

Hi guys. I have a question about dynamic IPs. Well, to start. I don't want the DHCP server JUST for my computer to not renew the lease on the IP address. Secondly, I want to know if what I just asked is possible or not? (yea, LOL)

No, can't do that. All you can do is assign a fixed IP address to your computer, let others use DHCP.

So you are saying if I want my IP to change every day. (that's when the lease expires) It would be for all the computers on the network. And If I wanted to do this, would it affect their browsing experience?

A DHCP lease is normally for 24 hours so it gets renewed every day. It very seldom changes the IP address though as it usually reassigns the same one.

Sorry, I missed your last post. I'll see what I can find about not having a lease automatically renew.

Mind if I ask why you want to do this? If you want to keep the same IP just assign fixed IP addresses.

Yea I don't mind sharing why I want it to change every day. I don't like how I keep getting firewalled from my website. I normally have 6-7 tabs up and I got firewalled the other day.

One question, Are you getting your IP from a router running dhcp or are you getting it directly from your ISP?

If it's from your router, then it most likely is in the range of 192.168.xxx.xxx
and people on the outside of your router normally don't see your internal IP

Most ISP's give out an IP based on their own policy and unless you have some agreement with them will end up giving you the same IP when you renew.

Your PC has to have an IP for it to communicate with the internet and you have to use a gateway in order to get out to the internet.

Firewalled is when the linux firewall (if installed to a linux webserver) detects that you have too many connections to the server at once and it blocks incomming connections from the person's IP. All I really want is to change my IP, and control when it changes.

Changing your IP would require a reboot or a refresh of your ethernet adapter.

So I am guessing that you want to access a web site many times in a single browser session in different tabs? And the web site is telling you NO.?

if so then your probably out of luck.

So it's not possible to let the lease expire on my IP address?

You can let your internal IP address expire by going into command prompt and type

ipconfig /release

Your internal IP address will be released and unable to access the Internet or your internal network. To get an internal IP address from DHCP type in command prompt

ipconfig /renew

But like others have mention most ISPs use a single IP address to connect to websites. If you do a web search "What is my IP address" you will find sites that will display your external IP address. Sometimes you can change this address by doing a power-cycle of your DSL/Router but other than that there is not much else you can do.
