Dynamics CRM version w/Server 2008

Hi, is there a specific version of Dynamics CRM I need to use with the OS Windows Server 2008?

Latest version is Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011 published 3/1/2011.

You probably can use Dynamics CRM 4.0 (Jan. 2008) but I'm not 100% certain.

K just wasn't sure if I needed to use a server version... or does it matter? We have a network with Windows Server 2008 & the workstations run Windows 7. For everyone to access the same database, would it be installed onto the server or onto each workstation, with just the datafile on the server?
