E: DVD drive won't write

I've opened ImgBurn and I try to write a file to E:// (DVD Drive) and it picked up the disk inside the machine before, but then it crashed and it won't detect it again.
It was doing this with SONY discs so I thought I'd buy more and see if it made a difference, although now these brand new discs won't even .. load to write (did before).
I tried on another computer and I do believe that has the same issue and says there's no disc within the drive.
So I don't know what I can do to fix it or anything,
Any help?

Is there any error listed for the drive in the Device Manager? or does it show working OK? In either case, RIGHT click on the entry for the drive to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers (CD/DVD drives use the default Windows drivers there are no 3rd party drivers). After uninstall, restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the drive. If there was any status corruption between Windows and the drive this will fix it.

You didn't list the drive model, but some drives will only accept DVD+ or DVD- discs and others will accept both types.

Tried that and

I have DVD +RW
and that's available, I'll try restarting in a bit although I'm positive it won't work and I'm stumped.. I tried the Microsoft download/Fix but that says the drive is fine and the media is wrong.. although 15 disc's cant all be dead?

Could be bad batch of discs. I've seen that before. But a small (one or two) pack of a different brand and see what happens. As these are DVD+, get some DVD- discs.

According to your post this drive is both DVD_ and DVD+ capable, but I would still try the DVD- discs. Also, if you have any CD-R or CD-RW, try buring one of these, as it is also CD compatible. Could be the drive has a problem. For example, if it will burn CD's but not DVD's it could have a weak laser as DVD's require a higher intensity laser beam than CD's.

I have had some brands not work in a drive before at all, and the other thing is, drive could have just went belly up.

Thankfully, they are very cheap now.

Looking at my song discs they're DVD-RW and my new ones are DVD+RW and it did detect the disc.. but it crashed when trying to write so I don't know if it broke it.

RW discs require more laser intensity than "R" discs. Try a CD-R, or a DVD-R or DVD+R and see what happens. Could be the drive is defective (if the laser isn't calibrating properly for the type of disc or just does not have enough intensity the drive will have to be replaced).

CD/DVD drives are terrible these days. That's why I'm rolling without any. Is it possible you could obtain a new one? Like others have said they're really cheap.

I don't want to install one on this laptop, because it's still under warranty although if I bought an external one? My pioneer drive doesn't pick it up in my desktop. My home server doesn't seem to have a RW (I don't think, I'll have a look) although I'm not sure what to do apart from get another one ? External?

Yeah you can purchase external CD/DVD drives that plug in via USB. They're pretty cheap as well and easy to use.
