Dear All

I tried to make a factory reset on an Acer Aspire X3400. It all seemed to go ok but after restarting the PC windows didnt start. All I got was a black screen with nothing more.
After doing some readings i rebooted on safe mode, and although it didnt start, i got an error message. I follow the instructions i found online on a similar problem and using C:\windows\system32\oobe and it worked, windows loaded. After that i proceed to update SP1, but this failed and this time windows got stuck not at a black screen but a a blue one with the nice windows logo on it. After waiting all night i did a factory reset again and now... i can start up the computer on safe mode but i cannot manage to do it in normal mode. it always stop at a blue screen with the logo.
Is there anything i can do? at this point, i am ready to go and get a new pc,if system recovery fails i really dont know what else to do

Many thanks in adcance for any help/advise

Luna

I will suggest to make the factory recover disks. Normally you can launch it on BIOS.

Download the Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool - https://www.heidoc.net/php/Windows ISO Downloader.exe

Under Win 7 download Win 7 HP OEM and burn the iso on a DVD or use Rufus to install it on a USB flash disk.
Boot from the Win 7 installation disk, go to install - Advanced - delete all partitions - Create new.
Win will create the needed partitions. Install on the large NTFS partition.
Use your COA key to activate. (it may be under the baterry).
You'll need to provide some drivers.

For the updates MS releases SP2 for Windows 7

I burned the ISO on a dvd, and reboot from it, installation started, deleted all partitions and made a new one and installed. It seemed to work and it restarted a couple of times, however, after last restart is back to square one all i see is a black screen and the hard drive/dvd are no longer showing any sign of activity ( no sound no flickering light) but installation has not finished. and now system doesnt even start in safe mode.

I dont understand what can be making all the windows installations to fail. i tried from e recovery, from the recovery DVD's that i made, and now from a fresh ISO...... anything else i can try?

Boot from win 7 installation DVD,
Go to repair and launch CMD (command prompt)
On cmd window type chkdsk c: /f
If it finds bad blocks or bad clusters, your disk is dying.

Hi Luna

What give you the decision to do factory reset.

There must be something wrong that make to do re-install, right.

This time do recall on what you had done Before you make the decision to re-install.

Is there any changes in the Hardware, which is most likely the cause.

If there is, remove it, and re install using the original recovery disk, if possible.

Factory setting is on the laptop as when it is new.

Any hardware changes may result in this situation.

In other word, strip of any Hardware that you had added, even a simple HW.

That is to say, some hardware do required driver to run before installing the hardware itself.

Edit: For your info.
I have done several re-install to factory setting, but i use the original Recovery disc itself.
As i have 2 Toshiba laptop (now 3) went to the service center to buy the recovery disc.
That is to say, i can remove the recovery partition to gain more space.
Re-install to factory is very straight forward, other then taking a couple of days to do windows update.
So far, for example, this laptop i am using is using recovery disc to restore to factory setting.
The previous owner use a retail version.
For using original recovery disc, the drivers and other program will not be an issue.
So far, no problem since day 1, except some components damaged, and repaired and it works good.

Eric.
