E6850 3.0ghz intel chip

I was just curious because of my own problem lately and noticing I am by far not alone on the issue it seems to affect multiple motherboards from multiple manufacturers.

Anyhow the default multiplier for this chip is supposed to be 9, but it seems a lot of motherboards and systems are defaulting it to 6 effectively making it a 2ghz chip. (it even gets reported incorrectly in some cases until you run cpu-z or check your system specs later down the road)

I was curious if anyone else around here has experienced it?

It is called SpeedStep, it helps the CPU stay cool when not under load.
Its nothing to be concerned about or to turn off.

no this problem persist even when prime or another stress test / benchmark is under way. that was the first thing I checked. Manually changing the multiplier actually gained me a full 1.5 points in my experience score for cpu as well.

The problem actually didn't occur for me until I updated my motherboard bios to the latest for compatibility with my newer ati graphics card.
