Hi everyone
I come here from Vista64 forum :)
I'm installing seven on my daughter laptop (tablet pc HP Pavillon tx2623ca). I did a fresh format and reinstallation of Vista x64, created 2 partition (c with Vista and z for Seven). I did the 2 dvd recovery (following the HP instruction) and now I was ready to install.
BUT  :
I insert the dvd with Seven full ultimate (I want a dual boot with both OS
it begins to charge files (like the old XP) then, when finished, appears:
black screen

ENTER o ESC

I don't know how to do.
Please, can someone help me?

Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language :$
I don't reply to that question and the pc is still there .........

Hi Lio, welcome to the forums.
In order to better understand what is happening , please take a look at this tutorial, and let me know if the installation went through those steps and which ones.
Also, did you start the installation from Vista or booting from the DVD?

Lio, did you boot from the DVD and selected the partition you created for Seven?
Also, is it a retail DVD? It is looking to me as possibly a defective disk

Yes, it's a retail dvd for a full installation for seven ultimate.
I have now choosen to not enter and I have boot again without the Seven dvd.
The first time I did I was in Vista normally, but the second time started the Recovery manager from HP and now it's reinstalling Vista newly :(
But after it did this, What I have to do for having both OS in that PC?

Thanks so much for your reply

OK :)
I've finally installed Seven, but I have now to check all.
I was trying to install from DVD, by letting the setup automatic and I had that problem. So the second time I tried with no luck, I was not able to run in Vista and I have to reinstall Vista too :(
Whereby I tried to install Seven from Vista and in this way all went well :p
Now I have to check all because more than one features on my daughter laptop don't run (like fingerprint reader and some others) but it seems to me that the performarce are better than before and without all that "useless" programs installed by HP.
And now I have to install also an Ultimate Seven on my desktop PC and here I'm really scared: this is my PC, it's a big machine I use to work, vith a lot of material on it. Now I have Vista Ultimate 64 since about 3 years with no problem, but I think Vista is really "heavy", too time to open and closed, too much RAM used (I have 8GB ram), so I want to have a second partition with Seven and try it and switch on it step by step. Inthis PC I have on C only the OS, in another drive (drive not partition) all the programs, and on different drives ( internal and external) and partition all the files (pictures, plugins and so on).
I put a new hard drive for Seven, with 3 partition (it's a 2 TB drive) and now it comes with letter (N). I work on photos so I need to have a lot of storage .....
what is the better and safest way to install Seven?
I cannot remove the drive with Vista because I want a dual boot so I think to precede in the same way than before: installing from Vista.
What do you think about it?
Thanks a lot for your help and....:sarc: be patient with my poor english.
Have a great day
Lio

Lio

First, whatever you do, first make sure you have backups of your files in a separate location. It seems you do, so I would leave the drives where you have your files disconnected during the installation, just connect them after everything is installed.

To be double sure, I recommend you run Windows Easy Transfer in your Vista, save your files and settings to a separate drive / partition that you will keep apart from the whole process. After you get everything up and running, you can run WET in your Seven install and get your files and settings all transferred automatically.

Again, I would leave the hard drives where you have your files physically disconnected while you are installing. I recommend you do a Clean install of Seven, since you intend to transfer everything later. Yes, leave the drive with Vista connected so you can get the dual boot automatically.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I feel you are not very comfortable with the process, so please ask questions if you have doubts, and please try to provide all details asked. We will try to help as much as we can, but preventing problems is usually better than trying to fix them!

Good luck (that is always good too)

Have you tried booting from the Win7 DVD to do the install, rather than running it from Vista?

You can find the missing utilities or drivers on the Support Downloads page for your model on HP website.

Thanks everyone for the support :)
All this day was for setup my daughter laptop (useless work I know :( ......). Now it's pretty finished so I hope tomorrow to start the same work with my PC.
No problem at all for backup, I'm used to do copy for all every day with both incremental backup on external hard drives and in dvds too ;) So only a really big problem could let me without my files.
At this moment I'm preparing all the programs I'll need in the new OS and I'm checking if all that I own can run in Seven.
I'm impressed by Seven speed, I don't find many differences from Vista but for sure it's "light".
@ gregrocker : Seven was perfect on this laptop (a tablet PC, HP Pavilion tx2623ca), I only had to install the FingerPrint reader but all went perfect :D
I'll give you my news tomorrow :p
Thanks again
Lio
