Edit the diagonal highlights in taskbar etc?

I searched and found an article on making the transparent bits in windows 7 fully transparent (i.e. without blur or the diagonal highlights).

What I'm wondering is if those diagonal highlights are a background image that can be changed in an image editing program. Can the transparency be tweaked so that it's non-uniform (i.e. solid at the edges and clearer in the middle)? Can the glassy stripes be replaced with something else?

Also... I know it might look ugly or confusing but has anyone discovered a way to make the background of a folder (not just the edges and title bar) at least partially transparent?

me too like to see my border or background solid with one color and no transparency at all
