Editing a .dll and XML Questions

Background: I'm fixated on either 1) (preferably) removing the User Account image and border OR 2) editing the User Account image and border so as to minimize its presence as much as possible.

What I've tried:
1) Editing the authui.dll using Resource Hacker to: a) delete some lines of XML from each of the 3 files contained in the .dll and b) deleting the border image bitmaps from the Bitmap folder. Both of these options resulted in my having to boot into the command line and move my backup authui.dll file back to the \Windows\System32 directory.

2) Editing the dimensions of the border image to 0, which resulted the same.

Questions:
1) Does anyone know a method by which to remove these items?

2) a) Is there a way to edit the XML code eg.:
Code:
resbmp(12218,7,-1,0,0,1,1)
Beyond the "12218" does anyone know what each value corresponds with?

b) Is there a way to make transparent .bmp files to replace the others with? (I'm using a non-solid image for a Login Screen background, so no, a single color is not what I'm looking for. (I'm thinking a possible solution by this method would be to get a screen capture of the Login Screen, and save a selection of the border in Photoshop and overlay it on the background image to just cut that portion out and then save that in a .bmp of the proper dimensions)

That should about cover it, unless there's something much more simple that I'm over-looking... Anyone?

Also, I've edited the registry value "dontdisplaylastusername" to 1 which removes the image when a User Account is unselected. So, even though the current User Account image is displayed after resuming from the screen saver, I guess I could live with just removing the border.

Hi BBullit,

I am also interested in an answer to these questions. There are several posts on this subject, but none give a solution. Your post is very thorough and descriptive, so I wanted to give it a *bump.

If anyone has an idea or suggestion, please respond :)

Thanks 7F,
N-Dexter
