so what are you running for editing wise?

I am isng fireworks 8 atm but have Fireworks CS4 on the way

Fireworks is a great proggy (way underrated) - I have CS4 but mainly use functionality that has been in the app for a few years.
If I were asked for advice - I'd say: save yourself a lot of angst - the grass is not greener on the other side, stick with what you have. Get some nice plugins (all the photoshop ones work).

Mainly I just use Paint.net and Gimp occasionally, I also have PS7 but I haven't installed it on Windows 7 yet.

No it won't - easy to use, nice improvements, Adobe have good video tutorials - you'll be at home within a day or so.

I’m happy to see a topic like this. I just loaded CS4 Creative Suite on my laptop with Win7. I want to use Photoshop and Premier, now let me tell you all this I haven't even looked at these programs since well I think it was 2001..and.. Well let me say they have changed a LOT!!
I’m so lost anyone have any good books to read up on this stuff that way on the bus and lunch at work I can read up on the changes so I don’t feel like such a noob.

There are just so many resources on the web. I haven't used them much for a while so its hard to recommend.
As I said before - Adobe is probably a very solid starting place - they have very good videos and tutorials, which at the least will bring you up to date with what is now in PS and Premier and get you running.

After that I'd suggest an hour in a good computer bookshop (or there's probably a Borders in Newcastle) and plonk your $A70 or so down on a book that appeals to you. I've always liked the Peachpit Press Books/lynda books - HOT (Hands on Training) but my last volumes were the 8 series so I'm pretty out of date.

I've got a copy of the PS Layers Bible for CS3 by the loo. Its 800 pages and got lots of good stuff which filters thru to everything one does in PS. Never bored on the crapper!

As usual best of all is to sit next to someone who's more advanced than you and watch. Not very practical tho.

I run Adobe CS2 on mine. The Photoshop application is stable, and to me, less confusing that the newer versions.

I edit video on the computer too, with Adobe Premiere Pro, which came out in 2003. Is stable, and works better than in my XP laptop

Photoshop CS3 is my main graphics editor, although I've started experimenting with my 3D Max 'skills' for 2D renders (if you could call it skills! I'm a relative noobie at 3D Max).
My siggy was my first experiment using both although Photoshop only got used for the fade overlay.

Oh, and I use the outdated Jasc Animation Shop 3 for naff looking animated avatars until I learn how to animate in 3D max!
