Effects of moving TMP/TEMP directory & disable Pagefile on boot drive
I'm using Corsair SSD as Win7 x64 boot drive, and I moved both User & System Variables TMP/TEMP directory to a new common TMP directory in another hdd (Drive D) & also disabled pagefile on my boot drive (but enabled it for Drive D).
Question is, what happens if I take off my hdd (Drive D and Win7 / applications need a temporary directory which doesn't exist anymore ? Will Win7 be smart enough to create a new temp dir in the original location ? I wonder if the dependancy on the hdd as TMP directory becomes critical.
About pagefile, I understand Win7 needs a min pagefile of 400MB on boot drive to allow memory dump. What happens if I disable pagefile on boot drive & enable it on another drive ? Will memory dump work ?

If you have it set to allow windows to control the pagefile, then yes it will. Otherwise not.
It is generally not advisable to disable the pagefile, there are programs that need it to exist regardless of the amount of RAM you have.
Why remove the HDD when presumably you use it for data and temp files etc:?

All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
I don't intend to, but I just want to know if removing the hdd temporarily (for some causes like RMA, etc) will cause any trouble booting into Windows or running applications with the SSD alone. I don't like the idea of dependancy.
Pagefile is obvious, it is too large & the space of SSD is too precious for me.
I move temp directory to hdd because I want to manage all temporary files (incld firefox, ie, etc) under a single partition specially for that purpose. Besides, I find with my daily routines (lots of video encoding, gaming, zipping/unzipping files, etc), my daily writes to the SSD is quite high about 30-40 GB daily. While I realize the SSD has the durability, I find it unnecessary when I don't see much improvement compared to placing the temp files to hdd.

I ran Windows 7 on a desktop without hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys and experienced no issues. You can relocate the page file to anywhere you require, even a separate storage device.
