Can a POE switch power POE components (IP cams) if the cat5 to the internet jack (of the POE switch) is coming from a non-POE switch? Or do I have to have a POE switch at both ends?

Thanks for any help.

I'm having a very hard time understanding your question. Especially since you're not using industry terms in the correct context as I would better understand them. For example, you sat CAT-5. Just say Ethernet cable. The category means nothing. What's an Internet jack? Usually they are called RJ-45 jacks and connectors. Or simply an Ethernet jack.

Having said that, there are different types of POE (Power Over Ethernet to those that don't know) types of poe - Google Search.

Can you explain how you are wring your IP cameras up? It sounds like you'll utilize to switches?

You might be interested in these two resources. I have a felling the Netgear community post will answer your question if I read it correctly.

You just have the POE switch on the last leg of the network before the cams as it's just that switch that is injecting the power.
