I posted a question three weeks ago about my primary email addess being compromised after MSN stole my data and put it on the cloud. For some reason my question was buried underground 'for a private answer' by the moderator and I haven't heard a word since - Can someone explain why the question was taken down and the question left unanswered by the moderator?

Regarding Contacts Folder/Interface in WLM - how do i disable it. I don't want it, I don't want it creating files and folders I haven't asked for. I don't want it invading my privacy and I don't want it interferring and distributing my data across the internet AGAIN for reasons as explained above

Any info on either item much appreciated. Thanks

There are two contacts lists in WLM: "signed-in" and "not-signed-in". It sounds like you want to keep your "signed-in" list empty and use only the "not-signed-in" list. If you already have your contacts in the "signed-in" list you should transfer them to the "not-signed-in" list by exporting them to a csv or vcf file on your pc while you are signrd-in. Then delete the entire list while you are still signed-in. Now go to the Options/Connection tab and push the button labled "stop signing in" and close WLM. The next time you open WLM you will be viewing the "not-signed-in" contacts list which may be empty if you have never used it. Now "import" the contacts you saved on your pc.

Note that you can keep even your signed-in contacts private even though they are being saved by Microsoft at contacts.live.com but you need to go through the privacy settings for your Live profile on the web and make sure they're not visible to anyone but yourself.

You must be thinking of somewhere else, we don't do anything like that here.

Thanks Kari, Roncerr & Roderunner for the help - that makes a bit more sense although copies of my data remains in the MSN cloud - and I have no choice on that.

I have re-imported the contacts although win 7 has scrambled the data and listed each contact by telephone number or postcode. Is there a way to import them again in their original format? (Listed by name & by business)

Listing order is not controlled during import but afterwards in the contacts window of WLM. Right click on any column header and you will see a long list of column headers. Put a check mark next to the column headers you want to be able to see in the contacts window. Lastly, click on the column header you want to list by. (Click again to reverse the order...the little triangle will point up or down depending on the listing order.)
