email format & sending

I have win 7 - 64 & when I create a doc in MS word and try to email it I am confronted with a email format other than windows live. I have no contact list in that program. So I decided to send my self a copy by typing in my address thinking that I can forward it from my normal email program with all my contacts that I have in groups there. It seems like it gets lost as I never see it come in to my in box. It has to be somewhere but where and how do I get MS word to use win live. Or do I have to import all my address book to that program. I have tried to cut and paste but the doc format gets screwed up. I can of course scan it and send from there but that is a pain I don't need.
I sure hate the thought of a typewriter and snail mail.LOL Heck, I don't even have one anymore. I think they are used for small boat anchors. ..........thanks.........Conrad

You can set Window live mail as the default mail client. See this page on how to.

Register Windows Live Hotmail with the Default Programs tool in Windows Vista

But, to email directly from Word, you need to have Outlook installed.

Hi Conradx,

I'm a little confused as to what issue your having; but I'm happy to help. Let me have a poke at it....
1. You create an email to send in Word (what version by the way? as there's many different options in the various versions)
2. You send it to email
3. Windows live mail opens
4. The email appears in windows live mail in an unknown format (is it as an attachment?)
5. You send it anyway (to yourself for testing)
6. But you never get it

If I have this wrong, please correct me and throw up some screen prints so we can see what you see.

If I have this right, please answer my two questions in the steps and also check your sent items to see if it was sent legitimately.

BTW is it possible ( or advisable ) to go back to outlook express ?

Are you sending the word document to yourself from inside word (send to email) or are you attaching it to an win live email?

* Check your Junk Mail box from winlive and online with your email provider (eg.. hotmail webpage).
* Turn off your antivirus when you send, lets make sure that it's not filtered. I'll PM you my email address, send me something too using the same method and I'll see if I get it.

Did you set up your email account in Outlook? You need to do that, then check that you can receive and send mails in Outlook INDEPENDENTLY of Word.

The fact that your outgoing mails are stuck in the outbox means that either your account is not set up correctly/ set up at all or your ISP is blocking the SMTP port.

OK Bill2, I have to start with importing my address list from win live to outlook, and get it working. It asks me if I want to make it my default program. I don't know if I should. Should I ? Do I need to ? Life was a lot easier for me when I had outlook express on my old HP with XP.

Thanks Bill, I misread and swapped outbox with sent mail in my head.... Too much world cup last night at 2.30am from me.

Well it looks like I had outlook all this time but with out my address list or book. what is the best way to import it to outlook ? I tried CSV and got MS excell and everything was first name first and did not look good so I haven't done anything since I last wrote you. I'm sorry not to have gotten back to you sooner. Anyway what now ?
