Empty InstallShield window

From time to time an empty InstallShield window pops up on my computer with the only things visible on it being an icon on the left, an empty button and the text InstallShield right above that (see first part of the image). When I click the button it'll sometimes close down to the task-bar and sometimes open a new window that seems to try getting online but failing. It has two tabs, one with the usual text shown in IE when you can't connect to the Net with the URL "res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff_webOC.htm#file:///C:/program%20files%20(x86)/common%20files/installshield/updateservice/pm.html" (URL shown when right clicking and selecting properties). The other tab shows a bit more, see picture since I don't know how to really describe it. Clicking the left button closes it down, most likely the right one does as well though I'm not sure if I've tried that one.

While all this happens the process "isuspm.exe" is visible in the task manager but once the last window is closed down that process disappears. Does anyone know what's really going on here and how to fix it? I'm assuming it's some kind of failed InstallShield update or at least my searches says it's InstallShields update manager but don't know what to do about it.

It is fairly straight forward. isuspm.exe is a process that belongs InstallShield from Macrovision The process automatically checks for the latest updates online. ....

Your dnserrordiag error is because isuspm cant contact macrovision either becasue you are not connected to the internet, or there server is down.

To fix the problem simply remove macrovision.

If I were to uninstall InstallShield (which I can't seem to find any way to do) would that affect future installs or would they simply re-install the program? Wouldn't want to remove it if it would turn out it messes things up worse than they are.

The Update Service is a tool that InstallShield sells to software vendors that is designed to help you keep your software up-to-date. Keeping your software updated has many benefits, but InstallShield recommends that software vendors build in an option to disable automatic update checking. If you are using an application that uses the Update Service, your application may have a configuration option to disable update checking. Please check your application’s menu options.

If your application does not have this option, InstallShield has created a tool called the Update Manager that can disable automatic update checking. The Update Manager utility lists all applications currently using Update Service on your computer and the Update Service's status with that application.

The installed ISUM name in your system makes no reference to the words "Install Shield", and it is simply named UpdateManager
You can find it in your Start Menu. Alternatively, you may wish to look in your Control Panel for an blue icon labeled "Update Manager"

The only thing I can find is "Program Updates (32-bitar)" in the Control Panel and that just opens up the same empty window. I can't seem to find anything else except for on the autostart tab of MSConfig (which I've disabled now) and the InstallShield folder in Program (x86)\Common Files.

look here C:\WINDOWS\IsUninst and the uninstaller should be found in that location. It would be unwise.exe. I found it on google, if I doesn't work, just search on google, there are 2,680,000 results for it!

Neither IsUninst.exe nor unwise.exe could be found on my system but I eventually managed to dig IsUninst.exe though not unwise.exe out from my old PC. Unfortunately it seems to need some kind of log-file for it to uninstall anything and I can't find that either. I also tried to download the Update Manager from InstallShields page but the link they provided wasn't even for that program.

I found a few posts on other forums one stating that there may be missing files (files I didn't have on the other computer either) and another recommending renaming the InstallShield folder stating it will be re-created next time a program using that installer is used. Giving that a try though I don't know when I will install something with it.

I think that update utility may just not play nice with 64-bit versions of Windows. It's also not an easy thing to get rid of. You can stop it from running automatically on start-up with PC Decrapifier however this leaves behind a control panel in your control panels folder that also pops an empty window like the one in your screen shot.

I finally found a tool to remove it completely on the Installshield web site. I didn't think to bookmark the page but the file is called SoftwareManagerUninstall.exe. You can just do a web search on the file name to find it.
