Enable PGS subtitles for WMP 12?

VLC lets me watch divx with xsubs and mkv/m2ts with PGS subs on my Vista64 PC. But on Windows7 it crashes every time I touch it.

Since I just found that WMP 12 has support for DVD sup subtitles, I'm wondering if there's a way to add XSub and PGS sub support?

I don't want to install a bunch of codecs since I have several video converters on the machine that are working and I don't want to hose them. Maybe some direct show setting or something that would allow these subs to show?

Sorry to hear it. The solution you seek is very complicated.
Just getting that m2ts file to play properly in WMP is going to be a challenge in itself.

The Win7codecs will accomplish the playback you seek with 3 clicks using the installed Settings Application.
1. use the SUGGESTED settings checkbox
2. on the Config TAB, set Subitles to FFDshow
3. on the MPG~MP4 TAB, set the blu-ray splitter

Thanks for the reply. The encoders are wicked touchy. One change in FFDShow and I'll get crap outs left and right. For now I can play using VLC on the other machine over the network. It's just frustrating the lack of subs support in otherwise nice players. Just tried the latest SPlayer. Enables hw acceleration even though my nVidia card only has 128 MB dedicated ram. Just wish it was better with embedded subs. It detects that the DVD has English subs, but it won't show 'em.

I tried WMP just because it was there. It showed the DVD subs so I guess I should just use it for that. :)

I found out SPlayer will display DVD subs if you mount the dvd image as a virtual drive and open the disc. It's a nice player with hw acceleration for some formats. I'm going to play around with it more to see what it can do. SPlayer is going to be my main player unless VLC stabilizes.

Windows 7 users should approach Splayer with EXTREME CAUTION.
It has already sent many users for the format button just to get Media Center usable again

Hmmmm, seems peculiar. I don't use media center so maybe I haven't noticed. The thread in the link seems to have died out around last July. Hopefully the issues are fixed? I keep my registry backed up so I'll hope for the best. I don't enable any file associations. I use a shortcut in the SendTo Menu for launch.

It seems to do some nice things for subtitle search. I got several downloads with varying play times and one was on the money, without doing anything other than looking at the sub times after it was done downloading the .srt files.

I always have mixed feelings about apps that aren't communications apps accessing the net though. There aren't many freeware players that do hw acceleration with this video card. Kind of limits my choices as staccato video isn't watchable. Other plays start and stop even when pulling the video from an independent drive.
